REPORT OF THE CHILD WELFARE DEPARTMENT

Dr. Jessica Peixotto, Chairman

The Child Welfare Department of the City and County Federation of
Women's Clubs of San Francisco has this year devoted itself to the
presentation, through competent speakers, of the work for children being
done by the State of California, and the further needs of these children.

A series of lectures has been held on alternate Tuesdays, at
three thirty in the afternoon at the Fairmont Hotel. The program has
been as follows:

January 6, 1920 - Child Welfare Problems in the State of California
Dr. Jessica Peixotto, Professor of Economics at the University of California

February 3 - The Purpose of Service of the Division of Child Hygiene of
the State Board of Health
Dr. Ethel Watters, Chief of Child Hygiene Bureau of the State Board of Health

March 2 - What the State Board of Charities and Corrections is Doing for
Children in the State
Mrs. Cornelia Stanwood, Executive Secretary of the State Board of
Charities and Corrections

March 9 - What the State Board of Control is Doing for the Children of the State
Miss Amy Steinhart, Children's Agent of the State Board of Control

April 6 - What the Commission of Immigration and Housing is Doing for
the Children of the State
Mr. E. A. Brown, Inspector of Camp Sanitation for the State Commission
of Immigration and Housing

April 20 - The needs of the Dependent Children of San Francisco County
Miss Katherine Felton, Executive Secretary of the Associated Charities of San Francisco
Mr. J. C. Astredo, Chief Probation Officer of the San Francisco Juvenile Court

April 27 - Observations on Child Labor in the Cotton Fields of Imperial Valley
Miss Emma Duke, Representative of the National Child Labor Committee

May 11 - State Board of Education and Child Labor
Miss Georgiana Carden, Attendance Officer, State Board of Education

The material presented by the speakers constitutes a body of information
of the utmost importance. The audiences have been apparently interested
and very regular in their attendance.
